I’m sure many have seen or heard the commercials on TV or the radio by now, but this is just a reminder that tonight starts FX’s new original series, The Americans. In this new drama series it is 1981, President Ronald Regan has just taken office during the Cold War era, meanwhile a group of Soviet KGB agents have been trained to impersonate American citizens, so that each one can become a sleeper agent, with a cover story that may even include an unsuspecting spouse and/or family. A new FBI Counterintelligence division has been formed to fight against foreign operatives on American soil. It stars Matthew Rhys (Brothers & Sisters) and Keri Russell (Felicity) as Phillip and Elizabeth Jennings, the two main sleeper agents in the series. The show was created by Joe Weisberg, a former CIA agent that also written episodes for TNT’s Falling Skies and Direct TV’s Damages (formerly a FX show). FX has been on fire with most of their original programming as of late, from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Sons of Anarchy, Justified, Rescue Me, The League, American Horror Story to the adult animated series, Archer. So I’m hoping that this will be another show we can look forward to each week. The Americans premieres tonight on FX at 10pm EST.
