VAINGLORY Review, Is This The MOBA For Mobile Perfected?

In the last couple of years mobile gaming has really taken leaps and bounds about what can be done on these small screens. There have been some truly amazing looking games that have come to iOS and Android devices. Recently, a new game for iOS was released called Vainglory, which has made a lot of people pay attention. It was showcased during Apple’s keynote event back in September and is even featured in one of their latest iPhone 6 commercials.

Vainglory is a MOBA (Massive Online Battle Arena) game with 3 on 3, which pushes the iOS to its limits. It features gorgeous graphics (which are even better looking on an iPhone 6), and creates a fun multiplayer environment for you and your friends. Each player picks a hero, then they along with two other players defend the Vain — a power stone — from an opposing team. Each player can advance their character through various types of increased abilities.

When you first launch the game, you are encouraged to a tutorial training. If you have played any kind of MOBA before, then you kind of know what to expect. You pick a character, then go through a battle by just yourself taking out minions and other obstacles. This is where there will be a learning process. Once have an idea of how to play and have completed the tutorial, you can then move on to a practice game, then on to real gameplay with 3 on 3 players.

The one thing that I found some getting used to was watching where you touch the screen to move around. It is easy to send your character off target. This is only a matter of getting used to though. Once you complete the tutorial, you then need to sign-up for an account to secure your own unique name for playing. This is an easy process and can be done in a matter of a couple of minutes. Once complete you are ready to fight.

The game is currently only available for iOS, but the developers have said once they get the game to where they want it, they will then start to look at other platforms, like Android. So it looks like if you want to play this game, you will need an iPhone or iPad for the time being as an Android version is a ways off.

Vainglory is free from the iTunes App Store, with in-app purchases available, ranging from $4.99 to $19.99. It requires iOS 8 on an iPhone 5s or higher, or an iPad 2 or higher. You can learn more at the Vainglory website.
