‘Transformers Prime: Beast Hunters – Predacons Rising’ Blu-ray/DVD Review

reviews-coffeeSo Transformers Prime: Beast Hunters may have ended back in July, but that doesn’t mean that was the end of Prime and his fellow Autobots. Premiering on The Hub Network this past Friday was Transformers Prime: Beast Hunters – Predacons Rising. This 90-minute special (with commercials) picks up where the last episode of Season 3 left off. It is now available on Blu-ray/DVD for fans to add to their collections.

transformers-prime-beast-hunters-predacons-rising-blu-raySeason 3 took a slight turn and added a new theme to it, Beast Hunters. It also introduced Shockwave and his lab experiment — Predaking, a terrifying beast that was reborn from fossils found on Cybertron — to the last season of Transformers Prime. Which ended up being a pretty great season, albeit short. Predacons Rising Blu-ray/DVD picks up where we left off after the events of Season 3. The thing is, this is actually three single episodes collected together to round out what really would have been the last of Season 3. Not that this takes away from it, just keep that in mind when watching this. It has the same great animation and storytelling, and brings even more characters to the story.

I’ll try not to spoil too much here, so keeping it short. Yes the story picks up after events of Season 3, but it also has elements that have been hinted at since back in Season 2. Unicron. With both the Autobots, Decepticons and a few more Predacons battling once again for their place on Cybertron. But Unicron has much more in mind. This story has closure for this latest animated series in the Transformers universe and wraps things up nicely.

There is only one “special feature” available on the disc. There is a behind-the-scenes look at the relationship between Hasbro Studios and Polygon, the overseas animation company that became a partner on this project. You will get a really cool insight into how these two worked together and the challenges they faced.

All in all, Shout! Factory has put together a nice Blu-ray/DVD for fans. I do feel like something more could have been put on the disc though. Some other bonus feature. This is a $20 disc that has 66 minutes (without commercials) of animation on it. So a little more would have been nice.

Overall, a great finale to a what turned into one of the best Transformers series. So head out and get your copy of Transformers Prime: Beast Hunters – Predacons Rising is available now on Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack and DVD
