The centerpiece of Kotobukiya’s booth at Toy Fair was their Avengers: Age of Ultron ArtFX Hulkbuster and Hulk figures. The paint applications on the Hulk’s skin and Hulkbuster’s armor, particularly the wear, dents and scratches, are among the best we’ve seen and the pair looked incredible in person. When you factor in the quality and that both statues together can be purchased for below $300, it’s easy to see why this was one of our favorite pieces at Toy Fair.
Not to be outdone, Kotobukiya also had their newly revealed ArtFX+ Super Powers statues on display. Based on Kenner’s line of Super Powers figures from the ’80s, each Koto statue is an accurate representation of its vintage counterpart with soft goods capes and appropriate accessories. The switch-out arm on Superman were particularly ingenious as they recreate the motion of the action feature activated by squeezing the figure’s legs together. Then there’s the box art, which faithfully translates Kenner’s figure packaging with a fantastic “shelf-worn” look. There are eight ArtFX+ Super Powers figures slated initially with Hawkman, Aquaman and Wonder Woman to join the Green Lantern, Flash, Superman, Batman and Robin, who were on display.
Kotobukiya also had more Marvel and DC items on display including their Age of Ultron Iron Man, as well as their usual mix of Bishoujo and ArtFxJ statues that will make Black Butler fans very excited. Finally, Koto’s Star Wars reveals included their recently revealed Celebration Anaheim exclusive R3-A2 & K-3PO and a newly announced Snowtrooper two-pack, which like Koto’s other Imperial army builders, will have some switch-out parts allowing you to create variations among your ranks.
