Yep, RoboCop Day. At least here in Detroit it is. It was first announced a few days ago (I missed it), but today is the day. It is all in promotion for the release of the 2014 RoboCop released on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download today.
RoboCop is scheduled to throw out the first pitch at Comerica Park for this evening’s game between the Detroit Tigers and Toronto Blue Jays. They will also have RoboCop‘s motorcycle on display at the stadium and the first 10,000 fans will get a RoboCop cheer card.
The Detroit police and others were supposed to take part in a meet-and-greet with RoboCop today, but that has apparently been cancelled. The event was also supposed to announce where and hopefully when, the RoboCop statue will go on display.
I’m sure this is going to be a one time event, as Detroit has been resistant to embracing anything to do with RoboCop. Which is why the statue has had such a long road to completion. I’m sure politics played a part in the cancellation of the police meet-and-greet too. I say embrace it Detroit. Make lemonade from those lemons. (Source: Detroit Free Press)
