The Penguin, Alfred and One Other Cast for ‘Gotham’ TV Series

television-news-and-talkThe Gotham casting took a huge leap forward today, with the announcement of four characters being cast. The first villain for the show has been cast, with rumors surfacing two weeks ago, the role of Oswald Cobblepot (aka The Penguin) goes to Robin Taylor. An interesting choice, a fitting one I would say.

The only thing I remember Taylor from is his role in Accepted, which was quite an odd one. But in Gotham, he’ll be playing a character that is, described as having the brains of a chess grandmaster and the morals of a jackal, is a low-level psychopath for gangster Fish Mooney who hides his sadistic lust for power behind an exquisitely polite demeanor.

The next bit of casting is for Sean Pertwee, who has been cast as Bruce Wayne’s butler, Alfred Pennyworth. Who is being described as, a tough-as-nails ex-Marine from East London who has loyally served Thomas and Martha Wayne for years. Now, in the wake of their tragic deaths, he is fiercely protective of their young son, Bruce.

Lastly is Zabryna Guevara, who has been cast as Captain Essen, the boss at the Gotham City Police Department Homicide Squad. And Erin Richards, who has been cast as Barbara Kean, a sophisticated ER doctor who is engaged to marry Gordon. Joyful but with an edge of vulnerability, she stands by her future husband.

This seems to round out most of the major characters needed for the Gotham pilot. We still don’t have our Bruce Wayne yet, but I’m sure they are near making a decision as the pilot is due to premiere this summer. So what do you think of these casting choices? (Source: THR)
