Stephen Amell Talks Shop on ‘Arrow’ Season 2

television-news-and-talkOne of the pleasant surprises last year was the CW network television series, Arrow, based on the DC universe vigilante. Fresh off the heels of an exciting season one finale, actor Stephen Amell (Oliver Queen) recently sat down with IGN to share with fans the exciting direction season 2 will be heading as well as hinting at some popular DC additions to the cast and story. Enjoy the interview below and be sure to let us know who you would like to see make an appearance in the next season later this year. (Source: IGN)

GN TV: The finale went so big. Were you shocked to find out that they were actually gonna have Malcolm succeed in that way?

Stephen Amell: Yeah, I mean, I knew elements of the finale by the early part of this year. I like it because, again, there’s nothing that we promise or tease in the show that we don’t deliver on. There was a device, there was a bomb — whatever you wanna call it — and whenever the bomb doesn’t go off, it’s kinda disappointing, so I’m glad that they went there, as hard as it was.

IGN: So when you pick up, how is Oliver going to deal with everything that has happened?

Amell: We’re just going to find everybody in a different place. I think we’re actually going to find Oliver literally in a different place at the beginning of next year. It’s our second season, but it’s kind of like a new series. So I’m excited.

IGN: How do you think he’s going to process the loss of Tommy?

Amell: Not well. The reason that he was the vigilante, the Hood, all that stuff is gone now. Merlyn’s been stopped, the list is essentially somewhat obsolete, the Glades are destroyed. If he’s going to become the vigilante again or something different, he’s gonna need a new reason.

IGN: Have you talked to the producers about what this new threat might be for the second season?

Amell: Oh yes. Yes, we’ve had some really good conversations about — let’s put it this way: Arrow’s world is growing.

IGN: Might it be growing to incorporate more DC Comics characters?

Amell: The world is growing…

IGN: [Laughs] Colton Haynes will be a regular next season. Oliver and Roy have had a couple of big scenes together, but not a lot so far.

Amell: I’m excited, you know, we’re through the first season, but I haven’t — other than my last scene with Susanna [Thompson] in the finale, I hadn’t really had an honest conversation with her. And aside from that one scene with Colton, I haven’t really had — I haven’t been myself to him. I haven’t been myself to Thea yet, so there’s tons of different dynamics that we haven’t explored on the show. I’m excited to do that

IGN: What do you think of the fan contingent who’s all about Oliver and Felicity getting together?

Amell: You know what? Passion is important. Anyone that wants to be passionate about the show and the relationships on the show, all the better.

IGN: And you got a great Star Wars moment with her.

Amell: Yeah! And that fully was. Don’t think for a second that that wasn’t exactly what the producers had in mind. They called it the “Luke and Leia” moment.

IGN: We know we’ll be seeing a lot more Slade next season, with Manu [Bennett] also now a regular. Should we assume that’s just in flashbacks still?

Amell: I mean, the island isn’t on Mars, it’s on planet Earth, and we haven’t seen anyone from the island in the present day. But I would assume eventually that’s going to happen.

IGN: And are you looking forward to the possibility of, at some point, getting another person in a costume out there with Oliver on a more regular basis, whomever that might be?

Amell: I am. Even when we had that a little bit with the Huntress this year… Again, any time there’s a new dynamic on the show, I like to see that.
