A series of character posters and a pair of video featurettes acknowledging the rift within the Avengers team have led up to Marvel’s release of the latest trailer for Captain America: Civil War.
The message of united we stand, divided we fall–the prominent theme of the posters and featurettes–resonates throughout the trailer which debuts, web-slinging superhero Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland. Spider-Man’s induction into Disney’s Marvel cinematic universe is significant because up until a series of failed reboot attempts, Spidey’s rights were held exclusively by Sony Pictures. Sony’s failure to kickstart the Spider-Man franchise resulted in them brokering a deal with Disney to repair Spidey’s image in exchange for shared rights and profits for films featuring the web-crawler.
Captain America: Civil War is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, and stars Chris Evans as Captain America and Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man. Civil War opens in theaters on May 6.
