The U.S. Postal Service has previewed its new stamps for 2016 and among the mix is a set of four Forever stamps celebrating the 50th anniversary of the television premiere of Star Trek.
The USPS’ Star Trek stamps showcase elements from the classic television series and include primary colored backgrounds synonymous with the series’ uniform colors. The stamps include the Starship Enterprise within a Starfleet insignia against a gold-colored command team background, the Enterprise within a Vulcan salute against a blue-colored science team background, a crew member in the transporter against a red-colored engineering team background, and an overhead silhouette of the Enterprise against a green background.
The original Star Trek television series, starring William Shatner and as Capt. James T. Kirk and Leonard Nimoy as Mr. Spock, premiered on Sept. 8, 1966.
Star Trek Beyond, the latest entry in the Star Trek franchise opens in theaters on July 22. Star Trek Beyond returns Chris Pine as Capt. Kirk, Zach Quinto as Mr. Spock and Karl Urban as Dr. McCoy.
