Marvel announced yesterday via USA Today, that X-Force will be going from two titles to one book. Relaunching as just “X-Force,” this latest volume of the pro-active mutant team will be under the creative guidance of “X-Men Legacy” writer Si Spurrier and artist Rock-He Kim. This is a result of the “Vendetta,” crossover between Cable and X-Force and Uncanny X-Force which will end both series in January. The latest volume of X-Force will then launch in February.
This new X-Force team will be more in the shadow world of covert ops and espionage than previously, dealing with things like factionalism, politics, and violence. Series writer Spurrier puts it best when he says, “This isn’t a steroidal macho-fest: It’s a slick, nasty, oh-so-grim beast that’ll cut your throat and blow up your headquarters before you even know it’s there.”
I’m not surprised to see this happen. When I saw that there would be two X-Force titles, just wasn’t sure how long that would work. Will be interesting to see how this new book turns out. The “Metal Gear Solid” Cable looks better than the giant hand claw version, so that is a step in the right direction. (Source: USA Today)
