Goodbye spandex, hello armor. Villain Rita Repula isn’t the only one getting a wardrobe update for the upcoming Power Rangers movie as Entertainment Weekly shares an exclusive look at the new Ranger suits our heroes will wear.
The movie suits are a departure from the patent leather and lycra suits worn in the ’90s television series, with a much sleeker aesthetic and metallic sheen. The suit creators remained faithful to the helmet designs and the diamond pattern seen on the Rangers’ chests, but the belts, gloves, and boots have been dropped in favor of a seamless silhouette. Overall, we’re pretty happy with the evolution of the suits, even though they do give off a bit of a Kamen Rider vibe.
The Power Rangers moive is directed by Dean Israelite. It starts Becky Gomez as the Yellow Ranger, RJ Cyler as the Blue Ranger, Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger, Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger, Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger, with Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa. Power Rangers is scheduled for theatrical release on March 24, 2017.
