New Blu-ray Releases: Week of May 20, 2014

Pompeii Blu-ray

It’s a decent week for new Blu-ray releases, considering summer blockbuster is about to get into full swing. This week is highlighted by the additions of 3 Days to Kill, The Monuments Men, Vampire Academy and Pompeii to digital disc format.

We had high-hopes for The Monuments Men, but not even its all-star cast was enough to warrant our recommendation. Like many critics, we overlooked Vampire Academy , but user reviews are generally positive and it’s one we’re going to add to our must-see queue, though we’re in no rush to see it, truthfully.

Steelbook collectors won’t want to pass up on the Sam Raimi directed cult classic Evil Dead steelbook or the controversial Quentin Tarantino directed Django Unchained steelbook , which includes the kitchen sink of disc and digital versions.

Finally, if you’re a fan of ’80s sitcoms loaded with teen-centric plots, The Facts of Life – The Complete First & Second Seasons are highly recommended. Those unfamiliar with The Facts of Life should watch attentively so they can calculate an answer to the series’ biggest question; are you for Blair or Jo?
