It’s another light week in Blu-ray world as this week’s new Blu-ray releases are highlighted by a follow-up to a pop culture favorite and not much more.
When I learned that a sequel was in development for 300, shortly after its release in 2007, I couldn’t wait! The years went by, the winters grew longer… it just took a really long time to get to that follow up. Seven years long, in fact. When 300: Rise of an Empire finally made it to theaters, my interest had waned. The reviews were mixed, the box office gross was successful ($331 million worldwide), but the movie that I would have surely gone to the theater to see in IMAX 3D will end up as a Blu-ray I’ll buy to watch in the comfort of my own home because of the prolonged delay between films.
If like me, you skipped out on 300: Rise of an Empire for some of the other flicks on the silver screen, the 300: Rise of an Empire box set is ideal for home viewing with a Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD copies included. The price has been consistently under $20, which is about the cost of a single ticket to an IMAX 3D showing–a win-win in my book.
