Marvel’s Moon Knight Returns in New Series to Fight the Weird

comic-book-newsDuring the ’80s, ’90s and ’00s, Marvel’s Moon Knight has had five series, but it looks like six might be Marc Spector’s lucky number. Announced today over at Hero Complex, Marvel is readying a new Marvel NOW! series for 2014 that will be helmed by Warren Ellis with art by Declan Shalvey.

As a fan of the ’80s Moon Knight series by Doug Moench and artist Bill Sienkiewicz, Ellis will be using it as his template for the new series, which will “remix” some old elements, including a ghost and a master sniper. He also plans to return Moon Knight back to New York, “there’s just a wonderful strangeness to seeing that particular figure against a New York landscape…. [of all the] urban caped superhero characters, I think he’s almost the most incongruous.

In this new series, Spector has gotten medical help for his mental health problems and has a clearer understanding of who he is. Which is different from the past where his sanity has been called into question many of times. Ellis also says, “[t]he best Moon Knight stories for me were always ground-level but weird crime,” he said. “‘Weird crime’ has kind of been the touchstone for me for this revival.

So if you are a fan of Moon Knight, it sounds like this new series could be the one you have waited a long time for. This also sounds like it could be some great material for Moon Knight to make his jump to the big screen or a television series. I know I will be checking this series out. Look for Moon Knight (Vol. 6) #1 on sale in March 2013. While you wait, check out the cover to issue #1 along with some preview page art. (Source: HeroComplex)
