Some interesting Marvel movie bits today. Some of these are rumors, so take that into consideration when reading them. First up in the rumor mill, looks like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s name is back in the ring of names being discussed for playing Luke Cage. This is all based on the comment made by Johnson on Twitter where he says, “Thank U @marvel President Kevin Feige for the nod. I’ll be ready. #RockAsCage #HeroForHire.” This was in response to a comment that Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige said some gushing compliments about Johnson. Could there be a future meeting in the near future where Marvel and The Rock discuss the possibility of playing Luke Cage? As I’m sure many would agree, please make that happen! (Via The Beat)
So could we see Hawkeye recast for Avengers 2, or any possible future appearances? Well according to this report at Comic Book Movie it is starting to look that way. You may or may not recall, after Avengers debuted, Jeremy Renner who played Hawkeye was not too happy about things and had some choice words about his role. One thing that Marvel doesn’t like about its actors, is trash talking about their roles and/or films. They generally recast once that happens. And according to a source, CBM says:
The source hints that there’s the tiniest chance Renner will reprise his role in The Avengers Sequel but the source also said there is a greater chance Hawkeye will be recast (like War Machine and the Hulk have been recast before). Finally, the source said if Hawkeye is to be recast there is a solid chance he could be incorporated into the new television show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as a primary character.
I have to say, I would be all for that. If they could make Hawkeye more like he is in the current Marvel comic book series, it would be very solid move. (Source: CBM)
Director Joss Whedon once again has added to the rumors that Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch will be in Avengers 2. In a recent interview with IGN, Whedon said:
“You know, they had a rough beginning. They’re interesting to me because they sort of represent the part of the world that wouldn’t necessarily agree with The Avengers. So they’re not there to make things easier. I’m not putting any characters in the movie that will make things easier.”
Lastly, according to a report at Bleeding Cool, more information has come to light that further suggests that Avengers 2 will feature Black Panther and we could be seeing the Avengers heading to Wakanda. Wakanda is the fictional home/kingdom of T’Challa aka the Black Panther. According to the source, Marvel has been scouting locations in the South African city of Cape Town. This report backs up the rumor form last month that Marvel has been casting for the character too. (Source: Bleeding Cool)
Without a doubt, lots of exciting Marvel movie news. Now if most if just turns out to be true!
