Variety reported a story today with President of Production at Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, where he tells us that the Captain America sequel will be a political thriller. Feige talks about diversity of the superhero genre in film, because each film is able to work within a sub-genre as well. This allows for a fresh take on the genre and helps in creating three-dimensional characters that span decades of print. He feels the genre is still far from a passing trend.
“If it is a fad, it’s one that lasts 30 to 40 years, as the Western did, because each one is so different,” he says. “There’s an opportunity to graft almost sub-genres onto them. Our first Captain America film was a World War II picture, and the next is a political thriller. They all have their own textures and patinas, and that’s what is exciting about it.”
So what do you think? Do you agree with Kevin Feige? I for one do, I think that is what is great about superhero comics, they can span traditional to sci-fi to horror to mystery to whatever and still feel fresh. The ones that are most successful in the industry do this. Captain America: The Winter Solider is tentatively set to arrive in theaters on April 4th, 2014. (Source: Variety)
