Marvel and Sony Find Their New ‘Spider-Man’ and Director

Today Marvel and Sony are proud to announce that they have found their new Peter Parker/Spider-Man to appear in the next Spider-Man film. Tom Holland (The Impossible, Wolf Hall, In the Heart of the Sea) has been cast after a long and complex series of screen tests.

Along with Holland, Marvel and Sony have announced that the next Spider-Man will be directed by Jon Watts, director of Cop Car. Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige commented, “As with James Gunn, Joss Whedon, and the Russo brothers, we love finding new and exciting voices to bring these characters to life. We spent a lot of time with Jon and find his take and work inspiring.

With them casting a younger Peter Parker, it looks like they are looking to go with the Ultimate Comics version of the character who became the fan favorite while in high school. The next Spider-Man will be arriving in theaters on July 28, 2017. But you should look for him to first appear in Captain America: Civil War before then.
