Some casting news for The Flash has been reported today. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jesse L. Martin — who played Detective Ed Green for nearly 200 episodes of Law & Order — will once again be a detective. They are reporting he has been cast as Detective West.
His character is described as, an honest, blue-collar cop who is a surrogate father to Barry. A soulful, funny and caring father to Iris — Barry’s potential love interest — West came up through the foster care system and took Barry in after his mother’s slaying and father’s imprisonment. He believes in Barry and supports his efforts to prove his father’s innocence.
The Flash started as a backdoor pilot, with two episode premiering with Arrow‘s mid-season finale and a third episode that was slated to air in the second half of Arrow‘s second season. But apparently The CW will now shoot the episode as a standalone Flash pilot to launch the series “with a bang like we launched Arrow,” CW president Mark Pedowitz told reporters last week at the TCA winter press tour.
This is pretty exciting. I’m definitely looking forward to The Flash series come this fall. I’m really hoping they put Arrow and The Flash together in the same night. A live-action DC Universe on television! (Source: THR)
