With just a week until the premier of Doctor Who Series 8, an interesting rumor has surfaced late yesterday. According to The Daily Mirror, a UK gossip site, current Doctor companion Jenna Louise Coleman is rumored to be leaving the show with this year’s Doctor Who Christmas Special. According to their source, “[i]t was very much a mutual decision.”
If she does leave, and it is at the time of the Christmas special, then Coleman will be one of the longest-standing Doctor Who companions ever. The report says that she is possibly looking to pursue other projects and using her time on Doctor Who to see what she can get. Just like the previous companion Karen Gillan, who played Amy Pond and has since gone on to star in the horror movie Oculus and the summer blockbuster, Guardians of the Galaxy.
We should take this report as nothing more than a rumor considering the source, so until BBC or Steven Moffat makes an official announcement on this. Doctor Who Series 8 is set to premiere in less than two weeks on Saturday, August 23rd on BBC One and on BBC America at 8pm EST. (Source: The Daily Mirror)
