DeadLine has reported that Screen Gems has agreed to distribute a live action adaptation of the multi-game of the year awarded The Last Of Us. Naughtydog game director, Neil Druckmann, will be penning the script and will be teaming up with Naughtydog Co-presidents, Evan Wells and Christophe Balestra, along with Ghost House Pictures and Sam Raimi.
Naughty Dogs co-president Even Wells shared his excitement on the announcement of working with Screen Gems, ““a perfect fit. Since our game released last June, we’ve talked with many companies about making a film, but we couldn’t have found better partners who share our creative vision and high standards.”
This is great news, The Last Of Us was hands down one of my favorite games of the last generation. In fact, my only complaint when I finished the game was that it wasn’t a movie instead of a game. It was that good. Hopefully a live action film based the critically acclaimed game won’t suffer from the “video game to live action movie” curse that has occurred so often over the years.
