First Look: Mattel Super Powers Mr. Mxyzptlk, Gold Superman, and El Acertijo

Mattel Super Powers Mr. Mxyzptlk, Gold Superman, and El Acertijo

Mattel’s final farewell to the 6-inch DC Comic universe action figures is really something special.

Each Mattel Super Powers figures comes in ’80s-era Super Powers-inspired packaging, as one would expect. The cards are not only faithfully reproduced, but Mattel was savvy enough to pack in the build-a-figure Kalibak pieces separately for those who wanted to keep the figures carded. The cardbacks are a fantastic homage to the Kenner Super Powers line’s final year, including the aborted “fourth year” additions.

While no new tools outside of trickster Mr. Mxyzptlk were created, there is a real nice incentive to assembling a Super Powers team as well as a Super Powers decoed Kalibak. Look for these to show up on Mattycollector.com in the near future!

Looks like the Riddler’s head mold is from a Green Lantern figure.

    • It is. The figure actually pays homage to the 1989 Argentinan Super Amigos line where the Super Powers Green Lantern figure was repainted as a Riddler figure and released only in Argentina.

Wow. That is so cool. I remember Toy Biz reused a few Super Power figures for their line.
