I think many of us have fond memories of the golden days of video games in the 1980s. Back in the day, you would get a game and it would take forever to finish it. Those that did would even have bragging rights on the school yard during recess. Kids across the country would whisper…”You see that guy over there…he BEAT Ninja Gaiden in 3 weeks!”. Back then games simply were made to last the consumer.
Enter the “next generation” of home video consoles. Many have noticed a disturbing trend. Developer’s started releasing blockbuster games that could be finished in 5–10 hrs! Imagine reading the latest game magazine previews, watching YouTube clips for 1–2 years to finally bring home “game x”, only to see the ending credits just a few short hours later? Blockbuster games that had story modes that lasted less than 10 hours, such as Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II and the Call of Duty series.
