We are only nine months away from Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens dominating the box office, and yet the Star Wars news train continues to deliver excitement as fast as the Falcon made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs. During the annual Walt Disney Shareholders meeting, Bob Iger dropped some huge news to Star Wars nation today.
First up, we have the title of the first spin-off film in the Star Wars saga. Rogue One will hit theatres on December 16, 2016 and will star Felicity Jones who is fresh off the heels of an Academy Award nomination. Chris Weitz is set to pen the script and Gareth Edwards will helm the director’s chair.
Wait there is more. Bob Iger also revealed that Disney is already setting their focus to Star Wars Episode VIII! The film will be released on May 26, 2017 with Rian Johnson both directing and writing the script.
So that solves the mystery if J.J Arbrams would be directing the entire new trilogy or just The Force Awakens. I am personally keeping fingers crossed he will return for the third film in the trilogy just as George Lucas returned to direct Return Of The Jedi.
