In 2009, still relatively new developer Rocksteady, debuted to the gaming scene their sophomore title, the “8.5 out of 10,” Batman Arkham Asylum. Two years later they followed that up with their “10 out of 10 masterpiece,” Batman Arkham City. As reported last year, the next Batman game was rumored to be set during the Silver Age, many assumed that with the pattern of a two-year development cycle that the third game would most likely be in 2014 on the next generation of consoles. Looks like that was a bad assumption…Warner Bros. Interactive announced today, that a new adventure for the Caped Crusader is slated for a 2013 release!
“[W]e also have a strong games release this year, which will include the next release in the Batman Arkham franchise,” he said. “So all in all, we expect Warners to post another very strong year in 2013. And with a little luck, the year should be as good or maybe even a little bit better than 2012.”
With the next generation of game consoles rumored to hit this fall, we still have to speculate if this will be a swan song game for the current systems, a launch game for the new hardware being released,or both. Also it will be very interesting to see if there will be two development teams pitch hitting every other year, so the studio can get out a yearly Batman adventure à la Assassins Creed. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available. (Source: GameInformer)
