A Short List of Directors to Take Over Marvel’s ‘Ant-Man’

hollywood-movie-newsLast Friday some pretty shocking and unfortunate Ant-Man news dropped right before the holiday weekend. It was reported that director Edgar Wright was walking away from the project. After spending years to get his vision of the character on the big screen, differences with Marvel over script changes caused them to part ways.

Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Rawson Thurber, Adam McKay, and Ruben Fleischer are being considered for the vacated director’s chair. Thurber is the man behind last year’s comedy hit, We’re the Millers, along with Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story. Both of which I think are hilarious movies.

Apparently the more likely choices of three are McKay and Fleischer. With McKay having worked on Step Brothers and The Other Guys and Fleischer on Gangster Squad, Zombieland and 30 Minutes Or Less.

Keep in mind that just because these names seem to be at the top, doesn’t mean that Marvel will be going with any of them, but they do seem like the best contenders at the moment. What do you think? Can any of these three replace Wright and bring a solid Ant-Man movie to the masses?

Ant-Man was to be directed by Edgar Wright, it is to star(officially so far) Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas, along with (unofficially) Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, and Michael Peña. It is currently still scheduled to be released on July 17, 2015. (Source: THR)

UPDATE: Reports this morning from THR had Adam McKay in talks with Marvel to direct Ant-Man, but apparently hours later they reported they have fallen apart. So McKay is out. The hunt for a new director continues. Do you think that Ant-Man is cursed now?
