Another fantastic discovery today. Early concept designs for Klingons that were featured in Star Trek Into Darkness have been found. These incredible designs are from acclaimed concept artist, Neville Page, who posted these designs, with other contributions, to his site. Page has worked on many popular films, including X2, X-Men: The Last Stand, Planet of the Apes, Tron Legacy, Avatar, Prometheus and others.
JJ Abrams was kind enough to have me on board another Star Trek. It was not too dissimilar to the first experience, other than I was too busy to be cast as an Alien this time. Then again, I did go down with the ship in the previous one.
This first round of images are some of the development of the Klingons. This was a very important assignment for me because I knew how important it was to the fans of the franchise. It was a delicate balance of respecting the established looks from previous incarnations yet delivering something appropriate for JJ’s film.
After looking at these, I think he did a good job of finding the middle ground. I’m sure die-hard Trekkies probably don’t feel that way. Especially since Star Trek Into Darkness didn’t seem to go over too well with them too. Regardless of how you feel, these designs are amazing, and should be checked out. I’ve mirrored more than a couple dozen images below, but there is stil plenty to check out on Neville Page‘s website. (Source: Neville Page via io9)
